Atlanta

Foot Work

by Dominic on June 29, 2009

Hey there again!

So, we had our meeting a weekend ago (June 20th) at Manuel’s and I was pleasantly surprised by the turn out. A lot of people that I didn’t recognize and some people that I did, but wasn’t aware they were interested (I’m talking to you Angel!)

During the meeting about a dozen of us came to the conclusion that our next action item is to just start a widespread survey of Atlanta businesses, and see what we get. Atlanta is a very sprawling city and it’s not easy to just pick one part of town and say that it is the prime target for Carrotmob. So what does this mean? Well, it means that I’ve got a flyer made up for ya’ll.

CARROTMOB BUSINESS INVITATION FLYER!!!

Hop on over to the media section and download/print the CarrotmobATL_invite.pdf
I took pointers from other mobs, and added some info that the crew felt was important for us, and have hopefully made a concise, informative invitation for businesses all across Atlanta. Feel free to print off some copies and take it to local stores in your area that you think might be good candidates for a mob.

As much as I’ll love to just send you out on your merry way and start getting everybody excited, we need to keep track of what you’re doin out there!
So, if you decide you’re going to take flyers out to a specific business or shopping center, or even canvas a whole part of town, I’d love to know where/what you plan on doing before you do it. No sense in wasting paper, time, and energy on a part of town that someone else has already gone after.

So please send an email to carrotmobATL(at)gmail.com and tell us know where you plan on going.

Some stuff to think about:

1.  When looking at a possible business, think to yourself “Could everyone find something they want here?”… Maybe a bike shop isn’t the best option, we don’t all ride bikes, but we all gotta eat.  Keep that in mind.

2.  If you are talking to an employee and they ask you a question you can’t answer… admit it.  Direct them to the three items at the bottom of the flyer:  Email, carrotmob website, or this blog.

3.  You’re representing Carrotmob out there.  Use Carrots, Not sticks.

4.  Have a good time.  Make friends.

P.S. If you haven’t, find our facebook group and JOIN IT!!! It’s been a much better way for me to keep track of people and schedule events… DO IT!!!

Let’s get ROLLIN

MEETING!!!

It’s been a few months since I decided to get this all started and I think the summer weather has finally given me the motivation to really get it all started.
I didn’t get much feedback when I asked for everyones availability for an initial meeting, so I’m just gonna start pushing forward and hope that we can gather up as many people as possible.

The meeting will be held at Manuel’s Tavern over on the corner of North Ave. and N. Highland in midtown. There is a room in the back they call the eagles nest and it’s a great meeting spot for 20-25 people max. Also, it would seem as if saturdays are best for most of the people I talked to, so I’m going to look at the June 13th OR June 20th. Comment below and let me know what you’d prefer by this weekend and I’ll try to have the final posted date ASAP.

I’ve done a TINY bit of footwork and have gathered some links/organizations that I think would be helpful in creating a little network of information/partnerships when it comes to the process of getting our Carrotmob up and running. Over on the media page, I’ve made a PDF that you can download and take a look at. I think these businesses, programs, and organizations could help us in a variety of ways.

Some might be able to help spread the word through their own networks and create a greater awareness of the actual event. Others might be useful when it comes to looking at the buildings and determining what the best bang for our buck is when it comes to possible renovations. If anyone has any recommendations for other groups, businesses, or individuals that would be helpful to creating this event, I’d love to hear it.

Welcome!

by Dominic on March 8, 2009

This is the official home of Carrotmob Atlanta!  In the weeks and months to come, I’ll be updating the blog with event and business info, brainstorm-meeting times and locations, and eventually promotional files for everyone to download and distribute both online, and around your neighborhoods.
